Autodesk relaunches Civil 3D Point Cloud Feature Extraction 25 February 2011
Point Cloud Feature Extraction for AutoCAD Civil 3D is one of our technology previews to facilitate the processing of point cloud data. The technology preview is an intelligent point cloud shape extraction solution which allows you to import, load, and extract civil-specific shape and geometry information from point cloud data in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Point Cloud Feature Extraction for AutoCAD Civil 3D on Autodesk Labs
On Friday they posted a new version of the technology preview from the team in Shanghai. Based on feedback to labs.acad.shape@autodesk.com and the discussion forum, this update includes:
•Support AutoCAD Civil3D 2011 With Service Pack 1 ONLY. If you have the original AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 without the service pack, you will encounter a crash problem in the ‘Create Ground Surface’ tool. We had temporarily pulled the download of the original technology preview due to SP1 incompatibility. With this release, "we're back in the saddle again." to quote Aerosmith.
•All features in Shape Extraction for AutoCAD plug-in. You do not need to separately download and install the Shape Extraction for AutoCAD technology preview.
•Support for selecting points within a region to extract features rather than selecting the entire point cloud object. AcDbPointCloudLight objects can also be supported in Feature Extraction commands.
•A new ‘Export’ tool that allows you to export both AcDbPointCloud and AcDbPointCloudLight objects to PCG files. This enables you to export the feature extraction results. This feature can also be used to decimate a point cloud by exporting it with low density.
•A new Boundary type ‘Polyline’ to extract the boundary of planes as a polyline. It is set as the default boundary type for both single and multiple plane extraction.
•Defect corrections to improve system stability.
